The Dopolavoro La Foce was built in 1939 as a meeting place for the workers on the La Foce estate.
Country dances and plays featuring the farmers’ children were held on the little stage, movies and news of the war were screened and people came from miles around to share a glass of wine and play a game of bocce (bowls) in the shade of the lime trees.
Today the Dopolavoro once more belongs to the Origo family. Managed by Asia Chirdo, it reopens as a restaurant and bar offering traditional Tuscan dishes flavoured with the delicious La Foce extra-virgin olive oil. The restaurant boasts its own vegetable garden across the road, guaranteeing a genuine farm-to-table process.
A path connects the vegetable garden to the famous La Foce gardens, which can be visited on Wednesdays and week-ends (info www.lafoce.com).

The restaurant

At Dopolavoro we serve seasonal dishes based on the Tuscan tradition.
We are lucky to live in a gastronomically rich area, where our suppliers are committed to following age-old traditions. This means that most of our ingredients come from local producers, farmers and breeders.
In season, our vegetable garden produces fresh vegetables for our specials.

Bar

The Dopolavoro bar presents a whole range of choices for different times of the day: from a classic Italian breakfast with cake and croissants to a full breakfast menu featuring bio fruit juices, eggs and toast to cocktail hour snacks including cheeses, charcuterie, wines by the glass and craft beers.
We also offer a local traditional snack, a homemade focaccia called bico, cooked on a cast-iron disk and stuffed on the spot with traditional ingredients such as cold cuts and cheese or re-interpreted to include new seasonal versions and recipes.

Dopolavoro La Foce perché nella doc Orcia si mangia meglio

La storia comincia nel 1924 quando i Marchesi Antonio e Iris Origo acquistano l’azienda agricola La Foce in Val d’Orcia con il castello trecentesco e la villa in cui fanno realizzare un parco spettacolare dall’architetto inglese Cecil Pinsent (1927-39). Il territorio è poverissimo e gli Origo sognano di migliorare la situazione agricola e le condizioni di vita dei contadini.
